ACL-8111
Enhanced Multi-Function Data Acquisition Board

Introduction

The ACL-8111 is a low cost, high performance analog and digital I/O board for IBM PC/AT and compatible computers. It offers the most popular data acquisition functions, such as A/D conversion, D/A conversion and digital I/O.

Extra Enhancement

Features

A/D Conversion
The board provides 8 single-ended inputs with 12-bit resolution. The analog input range is from ±5V to ±0.3125V. The different input ranges are software programmable. The ACL-8111 uses an industrial standard B.B. 574 successive approximation A/D converter. The maximum A/D throughput is up to 30KHz.

The A/D conversion can be triggered by Software Polling, Timer Pacer and External Trigger. The transfer of converted data can be accomplished by Program Control and Interrupt Service Routine (ISR), both modes can be handled by software.

D/A Conversion

One channel of multiplying 12-bit double-buffered analog output is provided on the ACL-8111. A +5V internal reference is used to provide analog output in the range of +5V to 0V. When an external reference is used it can generate 0V to 10V or 0V to -10V output.

Digital I/O
There are 32-bits of digital I/O (16 digital inputs and 16 digital outputs) to interface to a variety of digital signal boards through two 20-pin connectors. These digital bits are used to control multiplexers, read external status, gate the timer/counter, etc.

Software
Many software alternatives are available for ACL-8111:

1. Available software on ACL-711B and Advantech's PCL-711B: If you have software to run for the PCL-711B, it can also be used on the ACL-8111 without modification. ACL-8111's registers and connectors are completely compatible with ACL-711B and Advantech's PCL-711B.

2. Fully integrated data acquisition software package: LabTech's NoteBook or National Instrument's LabVIEW, LabWindow and Advantech's Genie, etc.

3. Custom Programming: For the users who are writing their own programs, the ACL-8111 is supported by a comprehensive set of drivers and programming tools. Utility, Program Library and Windows 3.x drivers are available.

Utility

The Utility provided with the ACL-8111 includes the following:

Prgram Library
An extensive library of functions are now available to support Microsoft C and Borland C/C++. There are many C programs showing examples of how to write data acquisition programs for ACL-8111.

Windows 3.x Driver (ACLS-DLL2)
ACLS-DLL2 is a high performance data acquisition driver for developing custom applications under Windows 3.x. It handles all data

acquisition operations including interrupt or software data transfer, etc. The Windows driver is supplied as a DLL that can be accessed from C, C++ and Visual Basic under Windows. In addition, its appli-cation programming interface (API) is designed similar to Program Library in DOS environment. It is very easy to transfer a DOS application to Windows program, just add some Windows instructions.
